History

Our school is named after a Mexican-American hero: Primitivo Garcia. He and his brother, Alfredo Garcia, saved their pregnant English teacher from being robbed in 1967. The teacher walked away without injury.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Primitivo, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound in order to save his teacher’s life. The story inspired journalists throughout the country and was featured in Time Magazine. The mayor of Kansas City declared Dec. 1 to be Primitivo Garcia Day. To this day, the family of Primitivo Garcia is involved with the school.

We continue to honor the legacy of Primitivo Garcia and his service to others.
