Teamwork makes the dreamwork! Yesterday, our district’s Family & Community Engagement team joined forces to hit the pavement and visit neighborhoods across our community, Engagement liaisons teamed up to meet our families right where they are – bringing smiles, checking in on how summer is going and letting everyone know how much we can’t wait to see our students back in the fall.
We were thrilled to be able to hand out essential pantry items like bread, cereal and canned goods—made possible by generous community donations and organizations like Harvesters—to families who needed a little extra support. And of course, we brought along some ice cream and popsicles to help the kids beat the summer heat!
While we worked as a collective team to support students district-wide, we were especially excited to run into some of Garcia’s very own superstars!

Learning goes way beyond the classroom walls! This week, our amazing Summer Academy 1st graders took a field trip to the Coterie Theatre to see "Pete the Cat" live on stage. Field trips like this do so much more than provide a fun day out. They spark imagination, build social-emotional skills, and help students connect what they learn in class to the real world. Seeing a beloved story come to life builds early literacy excitement and teaches our youngest learners how to engage with the vibrant community around them.
Summer break is here, but the work doesn't stop! Today, Family & Community Engagement Liaisons are in a monthly professional development meeting sharpening skills to bring the absolute best service and resources this fall.

Our first new KCPS construction in 30 years marches on, as we celebrated our Topping Off Ceremony for the planned new King Empowerment Center, which will include a new King Elementary, an early childhood center, and a family resource center!
From powerful student performances and thought-provoking discussions to inspiring artwork and interactive sessions, our schools have been honoring Dr. King’s legacy in meaningful ways.
